Many photographers worry they’ll come across as pushy or inauthentic — especially when they’re trying to encourage clients to invest beyond the digital files. But here’s the truth: Selling doesn’t have to feel “salesy.” In fact, it shouldn’t. Authentic sales are about connection, not persuasion. About guiding, not guilting. Here’s what that might look in practice: Not: “You need this album or you’ll regret it.” Instead: “Most of my couples say they’re so glad to have something tangible from the day. To View More >>

“Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has known.” – Oscar Wilde In this series we shine a light on artists expressing their individuality, documenting what they love, working hard on their craft, and sharing it with the world. We spoke to Joel McDowell, a Taupo based photographer who aims to evoke emotion in people through his work, and capture the hidden gems our beautiful country has to offer. How do you stay inspired?  That is a good question. Surrounding myself with other creatives, in all mediums and experience levels, is a good way to bounce To View More >>

We love seeing our books and albums used for out-of-the-ordinary projects, so were delighted when Doyle Yachts asked us to create a book to promote their handmade sails. Months later and we get to share it with you. We love how powerful the full bleed pages look, and think this is going to really help set them apart. Doyle chose to order two 12x12 Q Book Lights, and asked us for a complete 80 page design (160 sides). This meant we had enough room for large images, but also space to incorporate text throughout the design to explain different aspects of the sails. Projects To View More >>

We are in love with this wedding and album! The  gorgeous wedding was photographed by Natalija Brunovs from We Are All Stardust, Australia. Check out that beautiful custom embossing, complete with gold foil! Colour co-ordinating your album with your wedding outfits is such a great idea, especially when they're gold and royal blue. The gold foil looks great with our Starry Night Buckram. In fact all of our Buckrams look great embossed. You can request custom embossing and gold or silver foil by emailing us. Please state the album type, size, and cover material you will To View More >>

Have you thought about running your own workshop? So many photographers do. It’s a great way to pass on your knowledge, build your reputation, and make a bit of money while you’re at it! But where to start? Julz Glover’s “The Workshop” is about the use of online imagery to get clients’ attention and turn them into paying customers. She focuses on food photography in particular, and on Instagram as a promotional tool. She offers both one-on-one and group coaching, but her latest course is online, and accessible to people across the globe. We spoke to To View More >>

Last week we were enjoying drinks and nibbles with some photographers in the Design Space, and they asked, why all the pictures on the walls? The short answer: We’re visual people and we need visual prompts. The long answer: It’s part of our design process. We fill walls with things that inspire us, projects we’re working on and ideas for the future. They remind us what we’re up to and where we’re going. Workspace has been our main focus as designers this year. We’re a small team, and it seemed a daunting task. “Where do we start?” we thought — To View More >>

We're excited about the feedback for the new Workspace release. And from reading your emails it looks like our new storyboards will put smiles on a lot of faces. Originally storyboards didn't get much attention, but when we introduced blogging that changed. We realized pretty quickly that they needed a revamp. So let's look at what we have done: Storyboards are made up of templates designed to display groups of images, which Workspace then exports to create a single JPG. Use them like building blocks - choose a single template or add several To View More >>

Photographer Ben Von Wong recently had the opportunity to bring a dream to life, and despite a hectic schedule, he was determined to help a shy and very ill writer who had emailed his agent in the hopes that he'd consider taking some photos of her. Nicole wrote “I'd like some photos taken of me by a really good photographer while I still have some weight on me... I’d like to look beautiful or interesting. Anything but sick.” She wasn't sure he'd want to do it, and was prepared for a polite 'no', but Ben was intrigued, and two weeks later they'd organised a concept, assistants, location, To View More >>

Australian couple Kailin and Sia made the trip from Adelaide to Sydney for their engagement shoot. Their photographer Leah Kua who is based in Sydney, decided to take them to Wattamolla Beach for this gorgeous photo-shoot. Kailin and Sia are glowing! They look relaxed and like they're really enjoying being photographed together. They are using this 10x7 Duo as a guest book at their wedding - what a lovely idea! Their album starts with a Futura translucent title page. What Leah loves most about this location is the number of hidden spots that usually have no one around - perfect To View More >>
